Man jailed for sex assault
A man was jailed for two years yesterday for a sexual assault on a teenager.
Terence Parsons, 38, of Pembroke, was sentenced at Magistrates' Court after an earlier guilty plea on February 15.
The court heard that a 16-year-old girl was in the bathroom of a house on February 12 when Parsons called her into the living room. He pulled at the towel she had wrapped around her, causing her to fall to the ground where Parsons then assaulted her.
Graveney Bannister, prosecuting, told the court: "There was no expression of remorse. He tried to minimise the offence saying 'I just touched her'.
"He expressed no sympathy to the victim."
Addressing the court, Parsons said: "I would like to apologise to my victim for my actions. I take responsibility for my actions and I am sorry."
Jailing Parsons, magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo told him: "This is a serious offence — a violation of the personal privacy and integrity of a young person.
"To do this in the manner in which you did was to take advantage of the situation."
He added: "I recommend you take advantage of any sex offender programmes while you are incarcerated."
