Smith's Parish to hold Mentoring Day
The Smith's Parish Council is hosting a National Day of Mentoring event today.
The council, along with the Ministry of Education, are hosting the event in the Whitney Institute auditorium.
Education Minister Randy Horton will open the event. There will be a student speech contest and a dance contest throughout the day and a complimentary lunch will be provided.
Students will also have the opportunity to win prizes in a free raffle draw. The prizes include a trip for two to New York or Washington D.C. with accommodation provided, iPods, cell phones, DVD players and gift cards.
This is the third time Smith's Parish Council has held a National Day of Mentoring. The annual event has been such a success that Dame Jennifer Smith awarded the council a commendation when she was Premier.
During the day, there will be also inspirational speeches by Denise Riviere, Peter Carey, Lamone Woods, Derek Smith, Tony Thompson, Shannon Burgess, Ralph Richardson, Carlnika Roser, Rev. Veronica Outerbridge and Kristen White.
All middle school students are invited to attend with their parents.
