Sunday's Crime Stoppers 5k offers prizes

Runners and walkers will pound the streets in the name of crime prevention next weekend.The annual Crime Stoppers 5k walk and road race is designed to raise awareness of the organisation, which allows people to call anonymously to report criminal activity.Since its inception 11 years ago, calls to Crime Stoppers have led to more than 189 arrests, more than 500 cases have been solved, stolen property valued at more than $1.5 million has been recovered and illicit drugs with a street value in excess of $20 million have been seized.

The annual Crime Stoppers 5k walk and road race is designed to raise awareness of the organisation, which allows people to call anonymously to report criminal activity.

Since its inception 11 years ago, calls to Crime Stoppers have led to more than 189 arrests, more than 500 cases have been solved, stolen property valued at more than $1.5 million has been recovered and illicit drugs with a street value in excess of $20 million have been seized.

The race on Sunday October 28 is sponsored by the Argus Group, in association with Swan's Running Club.

It begins and ends at the Argus Building on Wesley Street. Walkers and junior runners, who will run a 1.5 mile race, start at 8.30 a.m. and adult runners begin at 9 a.m.

The Argus Group has sponsored the race since 2001. As part of its wellness programme, it is encouraging adults and children of all age groups and fitness levels to participate.

All those who compete will be eligible to win one of ten iPod Shuffles, travel vouchers or a one-night stay for two people at a local hotel along with a range of other prizes on offer.

Entry forms are available from the Argus Group, International Sports Shop, Sportseller, Sports 'R' Us and Unlimited Supplies.

The entry deadline is 4.30 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2007. Race numbers can be picked up the day before the race at the Argus Building on Saturday, October 27 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
