Golf cart driver banned from roads

A drunk ride on a golf cart means a young man is banned from all vehicles for 12 months. A 23-year-old was caught drink driving — after police saw him driving the white golf cart erratically on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish.

Crown Counsel Patrick Mahoney told Magistrates Court how Stefan Metshnabel passed Police at the junction of North Shore Road and Wilkinson Avenue at 9 p.m. on December 15.

According to the Police he was driving West and was swerving along the road. When Metshnabel almost hit a curb while turning left onto a private drive the Police asked him to stop the golf cart.

The officers noticed that his eyes were glazed and seemed very small. The Police then asked Metshnabel, of Oceanside Drive, Southampton if he had been drinking. He replied ‘yeah’ and the Police then cautioned him for driving the golf cart and arrested him.

Metshnabel has a record from a similar offence on March 8, 2005 though it was not clear if that had been for driving a golf cart. Metshnabel pleaded guilty when he appeared before the courts yesterday and Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Metshnabel $800 and banned him from all vehicles for 12 months.
