Hospitality fair for the unemployed
Unemployed locals were told to attend a hospitality fair later this month this afternoon.Minister of Economy Kim Wilson said people should show up the February 17 fair well-dressed, with a resume and ready to put their best foot forward.Sen Wilson said: “I encourage all Bermudians who are seeking employment to attend this job fair. Dress to impress. Bring your resumes. Be prepared to put your best foot forward. This is your opportunity to do what you need to do to get employed.“I stand ready to support the Bermudian workforce but please remember that the Government cannot compromise a business community already under serious pressure because of a sense of entitlement.“These are indeed tough times for all of us so please take responsibility for your future. Simply put: A lower wage is better than no wage don’t choose not to work over working for a lower than desired salary.“Get out there and go on interviews dressed appropriately and speaking clearly and be productive. Don’t stay home if it’s raining. You’re either part of the solution or part of the problem.”Sen Wilson said there were hundreds of jobs available. She added that she had not received much criticism for extending the moratorium on certain job categories.Last week Sen Wilson said no work permits would be granted for landscape gardeners, cleaners, kitchen and bar porters, housekeepers, masons and carpenters for another three months. The fair takes place next week at Fairmont Hamilton Princess. People do not have to have a hospitality background to attend.
