Shooting suspect caught
An on-the-run teenager suspected of shooting Bermudian Gregory Armstrong has been caught by Police hiding under a mattress in an Alabama bedroom.
Montez Holt, 19, is now in custody and has been charged with the attempted murder of Mr. Armstrong, who has been in a critical condition in Huntsville Hospital for the past two weeks. Holt eluded Police since a high-speed car chase on Friday, January 19.
But he was discovered when officers called at a home in Huntsville following reports of a disturbance on Saturday evening. He has now been charged with attempted murder, robbery in the first degree, two counts of discharging a firearm into a building, assault in the second degree and burglary in the first degree.
The hunt for Holt had previously stretched to Florida, where it was thought he may have been harboured by friends.
Raphael Parham, 16, of Huntsville, has already been charged with first degree burglary and robbery in connection with the incident, which happened in Mr. Armstrong’s apartment on Monday, January 15.
Although Parham is a juvenile, he is being charged as an adult due to the use of a firearm in connection with the robbery. Mr. Armstrong, 22, is thought to be recovering slowly following surgery for a gunshot wound to his left upper abdomen.
His mother, Reverend Judith Gardner from St. Paul’s AME Church, is at his bedside.
