Anthony DaCruz, 32, pleading guilty to the offences in Magistrates' Court, said it was the first time he had ever been arrested by Police.

"I've disgraced my family and my country,'' he told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis before expressing concern he might not be able to come back to the Island.

Prosecutor Sgt. Kenrick James said DaCruz was stopped at the Airport on Sunday as he was leaving the Island on a US flight. Customs officers found a bag containing marijuana in the pocket of a jacket in a suit bag he was carrying, Sgt. James said.

And they found 11 marijuana cigarettes and papers in a pouch tucked in the front of his underwear.

Mr. Francis imposed fines of $350 for the marijuana and $100 for the papers.
