Edward VII Memorial Hospital yesterday afternoon by a US Navy helicopter.

He was on board the yacht Blue Juffer some 600 miles east of Bermuda when the injury occurred.

The 26,000-ton Russian tanker Burgas , en route to Louisiana, was in the area and managed to pick up the seaman. The tanker diverted to Bermuda and was met by helicopter some 50 miles southwest of the Island.

Bermuda Harbour Radio was notified of the injured sailor on Saturday morning.

He was conscious when taken to hospital from the Prospect Police Field where the helicopter landed.

FUN RUN AND WALK SET FOR USNAS MIL Fun run and walk set for USNAS Scores of people are expected to put on their running and walking shoes next month.

The United States Naval Air Station Running Club is sponsoring a 5K fun run, and 5K walk and barbecue.

The event takes place at Clearwater Beach; the walk starts at 4 p.m, the run at 4.15 p.m.

Entry fees -- which include a souvenir T-shirt -- are $10, and $5 for club members. Prizes will be awarded for male and female categories.

Registration is at the USNAS Fitness Centre, Sportseller, or Pro Shop.

TAXI DRIVER LOSES OUT ON $30 FARE CRM Taxi driver loses out on $30 fare A male taxi driver was gypped out of a $30 cab fare by two female passengers during the early hours of yesterday morning.

The two women bolted when they got out of his taxi at about 4 a.m. at Haven Way in Sandys Parish.

The taxi driver described one of the women as being fair-skinned and about five feet, nine inches tall. He said she had been wearing an earring in her nose.

The two women were picked up from an address on Friswell's Hill in Pembroke.

THIEVES TARGET VISITORS CRM Thieves target visitors Police reported the rooms of visitors at two Warwick guest houses were broken into by thieves on the weekend. The culprits managed to make off with more than $1,000 cash.

The first room was broken into during the early hours of Friday morning and US $295 cash was taken.

The second break-in occurred during the early hours of Saturday morning, mostly likely through an insecure sliding glass door, Police said.

Two women awoke to find a total of $780 cash had been taken from their purses while they were sleeping. Their purses had been on the floor below the dresser.

WOULD-BE THIEF CAUGHT IN ACT CRM Would-be thief caught in act A thief trying to climb through the window of an apartment on Point Finger Road on Friday morning was caught in the act by the occupant -- a nurse returning from work at about 2.30 a.m.

The thief ran away when the nurse screamed, Police reported. He was described as being a black male and wearing an orange shirt.

Police further reported that the RAA Club in St. George's was broken into on Friday night and the cigarette and vending machines attacked. An unknown quantity of cigarettes and coins was taken.

And Police are on the lookout for a white punt, registration number 4635, which was reported missing from Red Hole in Paget sometime between Thursday afternoon and Saturday.

NO MAIL TO IRELAND UPS No mail to Ireland Mail to Ireland from Bermuda will not be accepted for the time being because of strikes in the Irish capital of Dublin, postmaster general Mr. Clevelyn Crichlow said yesterday.

However, international express mail would still be allowed through, he said.
