Arrest made in sex assault case

Police arrested the suspect a short time later and took him to St. George's Police Station where he was assisting officers with their inquiries.

LAWYER NAMED IN WRIT CTS Lawyer named in writ A half million dollar writ filed in the Supreme Court against lawyer Philip Perinchief is understood to be a dispute relating to property, The Royal Gazette has learned.

A writ was filed in the Supreme Court earlier this week by law firm Appleby, Spurling & Kempe, representing the Bank of Butterfield.

The amount being sought is $652,070.25. The Bank has refused to comment on the writ.

Until last summer in private practice, Mr. Perinchief is now a counsel in the Attorney General's Chambers.

When contacted yesterday, Mr. Perinchief would only comment: "It is just a dispute over some property. I will resolve the dispute.'' SCHOOL FIGHT PROBED CRM ED School fight probed Police are investigating after a 15-year-old pupil was struck in the face with an unknown object at CedarBridge Academy.

The 15-year-old Southampton boy was in the washroom when he was approached by another student at about 2.15 p.m. on Wednesday.

He told Police he was hit on his head with some kind of object, suffering bruising and swelling to the left side of his face.

He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment but was discharged the same day.

A Police spokesman said the attack was not believed to have followed an argument, but, at this stage, the assailant was thought to be another student at the school.

As of yesterday afternoon, Police had not interviewed any suspects. Inquiries are continuing.

The school declined to comment.

TEENAGERS LOCATED POL Teenagers located Police are thanking the public in their efforts in helping to find two missing juveniles, Toni DeVent and Alvonne Maybury.

DeVent, 14, was reported missing on January 3, and has since been found.

A Police spokesperson said she is currently in the care of Police and Juvenile Services.

Maybury, also 14, was found yesterday afternoon.

To date Samantha Simmons, 16, has still not been located.

Police has asked that anyone knowing her whereabouts to call Community and Juvenile Services at 299-4477 or 299-4307.

IMPAIRED DRIVER FINED CTS Impaired driver fined A Devonshire man was fined yesterday after he was caught driving three times over the limit.

First-time offender Granville Eugene Payne, of Middle Road, pulled up behind a Police car on Parson's Road on December 10.

The Police watched Payne, 59, swerve over the yellow line a few times and when he turned onto Montpelier Road, they saw him travel on the other side of the yellow line.

He was arrested and a subsequent breathalyser test revealed his alcohol/blood level was 255 milligrammes in 100 millilitres of blood -- the legal limit is 80 milligrammes in 100 millilitres of blood.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner also disqualified Payne from driving all motor vehicles for 12 months.

RESIDENCE BURGLED CRM Residence burgled An unknown culprit entered a residence on Border Lane in Pembroke and removed an amount of jewellery on Wednesday.

The complainant discovered the theft at approximately 6.20 p.m. and found that several pieces of women's jewellery had been removed from a drawer.
