Bailey's replacement confirmed
been made official.
Lawyer Mr. Ed Bailey was controversially removed last year as chairman of the Public Service Vehicles Licensing Board.
The Supreme Court had ruled the board had acted beyond its powers.
Mr. Bailey has been replaced by Mrs. Jo Carol Robinson, a lawyer appointed to the board for the first time last February.
The changeover has been confirmed in the just released list of appointments to Government boards.
Also out of the PSVLB are taxi drivers Mr. Erwin Lightbourne and Mr. Hadley Woolridge, who have been replaced by Mr. del Monte Davis, and Mr. Robert Jack, who has served on the board before.
A newcomer to the board is Mr. Paul King.
Controversy under Mr. Bailey's chairmanship erupted early last year.
Chief Justice the Hon. Sir James Astwood backed two lawsuits accusing the board of appearing biased in handling competing license applications to operate an Airport limousine service, owned by Bermuda Aviation Services.
The two applicants were Bee Line Transport Ltd. and Bermuda Hosts Ltd., which won the license.
The lawsuits pointed out Mr. Bailey, who chaired some meetings on the license transfer, was a partner in the law firm of Richards, Francis & Francis, whose general manager, Mr. Wayne Furbert, was a Bermuda Hosts shareholder.
The firm also provided legal representation to Bermuda Hosts.
Sir James' ruling led to Transport Minister the Hon. Ralph Marshall removing Mr. Bailey, and the two other board members.
At the time, Mr. Marshall said no claims of bias had been made against Mr.
Lightbourne and Mr. Woolridge.
But he said Sir James' decision had left the board tainted.
In other appointments, Mr. Leslie C. Holder has been replaced by Mr. Robert Mello as chairman of the Consumer Affairs Board.
Mr. John W. (Buddy) Lewis replaces Mr. Charles W. Kempe as chairman of the Air Advisory Committee.
And there have also been a number of changes on the Human Rights Commission's board of inquiry.
New members include Mr. Warren Cabral, Miss Nadi Francis, Mr. Timothy Marshall, Mr. Paget Wharton, and Mr. Kim White.
