Beach-loving dog gets owner in trouble . . .
have dropped his mistress into deep water.
The Government dog warden was called to collect the German Shepherd from John Smith's Bay on July 1, Magistrates' Court was told yesterday.
The warden took Champ back to the dog's home on Harrington Sound Road, where Helene Wells was told to keep him under control.
But the dog had to be picked up twice more during the next month after it strayed to the beach, said Crown counsel Mr. Melvin Douglas.
Wells admitted being in charge of a dog that repeatedly strayed onto another person's property.
She told the court: "I live on a property with tourist accommodation and it was the tourists that were letting him loose.
"He's a friendly dog so they like to let him loose and go swimming with him.
I live on the water and they would let him loose on the property.'' She has now put Champ in a harness locked to his chain which prevents other people letting him free, the court heard.
Senior magistrate the Wor. Will Francis gave Wells a six month conditional discharge.
"I gather that you realise now that you are responsible for this dog,'' he said.
