suing Government.

Miss Beverly Glourie Evans was unable to work for a year after the 1992 incident in Pembroke.

Her bus went on to plough into three houses and a telephone pole on Marsh Folly Road. There were no passengers on board.

Now Miss Evans has slapped a writ on Transport Minister the Hon. Maxwell Burgess, alleging the bus had mechanical problems.

Also named in the action is the Public Transportation Board, and Mr. Gladwin Edness.

Mr. Edness is described in the Supreme Court register as a PTB mechanic.

Yesterday Miss Evans' lawyer said the writ alleged negligence.

Mr. Ed Bailey claimed Miss Evans, no longer with the PTB, was forced to escape the bus because of mechanical failure.

The accident left his client needing hospital treatment for "severe injuries'' and she also suffered trauma, he said.

Mr. Bailey said part of claim would be loss of earnings following the crash.

"Miss Evans has got a temporary job now, but was unemployed for over a year because of what happened,'' he said. "She should be compensated for the inconvenience and the pain she has suffered.

"No sum has been settled upon. It's difficult to quantify any compensation.'' Mr. Bailey said Miss Evans -- aged 38 at the time of the accident -- had worked for PTB between three and four years.

He doubted whether the action would be contested.

The June 16, 1992 incident received widespread publicity.

The Royal Gazette reported Miss Evans bailed out of the vehicle just after she left the bus stop opposite Bishop Spencer Road.

The vehicle continued down the middle of Marsh Folly road, swerving from side to side and wreaking havoc.

The bus crashed into a yellow house, and then flattened a road sign on the opposite side of the street.

Next it veered across the road and smashed into porches of two houses, toppling walls in front of them.

According to reports, it went on to knock off the tops of two stone gate posts.

It finally came to rest after smashing into a Belco pole and the corner of a dark pink house.

The road was closed off while firemen cleaned up gas spills and Works and Engineering crews tidied up rubble.
