Camping facilities in bad shape
reviewed because some of its properties are in bad shape and in need of immediate repair.
Shadow Youth and Sport Minister Nelson Bascome made this charge in the House of Assembly on Friday.
He said camping facilities and buildings at Paget Island had been allowed to deteriorate and it appeared that no money has been set aside in the budget for their repair.
He said the Salvation Army, which had used the facility for the last nine years, had moved to a different site due to the conditions.
Trevor Woolridge (PLP) said Bermudians should be concerned about the statistics on AIDS that have been compiled by the Health Department and it showed there were still people out there having unprotected sex.
He said the AIDS problem was not one to score political points on and there was an urgent need to step up the campaign so that the message can be driven home.
Grace Bell (UBP) sought to explain why she was seen nodding off during the Throne Speech debate last week.
Mrs. Bell, who was often one of the few MPs present in the House, said she felt unwell because she was suffering the ill effects of the cigarette smoke from the back rooms.
"The nicotine floats through the air conditioning ducts and it affects others,'' she explained.
