Canadian lawyer Mr. Murray Kierans has taken legal action in connection with a decision ordering him to pay the costs of a disciplinary hearing brought
It is understood Mr. Kierans is appealing an order by the disciplinary proceedings panel allowing the Supreme Court registrar to assess the amount he must pay. He contends the registrar has no entitlement to be the person to assess costs.
Appleby, Spurling & Kempe managing partner Mrs. Dianna Kempe this week confirmed the law firm had initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr.
Kierans last year and that he was ordered to pay costs.
Mrs. Kempe declined to give the reason for the firm's action.
The lawyer was fined $1,500 after the hearing, which was in-chambers.
Mr. Kierans, who recently left Mello, Hollis, Jones & Martin, could not be reached for comment.
He is represented by lawyer Mr. Tim Marshall, who would not comment on the case.
Mr. Kierans' action was entered in the Supreme Court Cause Book on March 30.
