Care home for women set to open
some way to meeting an increased demand for assistance.
The Fair Havens Christian Care Association hope to have relocated to their new unit in Smith's by June -- increasing their capacity from ten people to 16.
Planning permission has just been granted for the conversion work on the former Cabana Vacation apartments on Verdmont Road.
Chairwoman Pat Lynn said the expansion had been needed for over a year, in order to enable the association to meet a need in the community.
"Our expansion and quality improvement cannot be accomplished without making a move from our Victoria Street residence,'' she said.
"In addition to the increase in the number of residents, we will be able to offer additional family counselling and parenting programmes that will enhance the recovery process for the entire family.'' Although unnoticable from the outside, the building will be converted to provide 24-hour-a-day care for the women, while offering a traditional Bermuda home atmosphere, she said.
Serenity is important during the recovery process, so there are opportunities for residents to enjoy relaxation and meditation.
The home will act as a halfway house for those who have progressed through counselling and are preparing to go back and live with their families in the community.
