Castle point plans approved
unit at the sprawling $23 million Castle Point estate has been given the green light.
But the Development Applications Board has made it clear that the approval is only for the plans.
"A separate application for a building permit must be made and approved,'' the board added.
Mr. Flottl bought the estate in 1991 from Dr. Henry Clay Frick whose father built the main house in the 1930s.
The millionaire, who is the owner of Bermuda-based International Asset Management Limited, plans to knock down the main house and build a grander two-storey home on 3,000 square feet of land of the eight-acre estate in Tucker's Town.
Mr. Flottl also plans to knock down the guest cottage, add onto the caretaker's cottage and alter the one-bedroom watchtower.
The second dwelling unit is believed to be related to the caretaker's cottage.
But the DAB said before it issued a certificate of use and occupancy permit, there needed to be parking and manoeuvring spaces for two cars as required by the 1992 Bermuda Plan.
"In the interest of visual amenity,'' the board also stated, "the entire site subject of this application shall be landscaped within three months of the issuance of a certificate of use and occupancy permit unless the prior express permission of the board has been obtained for an extension.''
