The Vestry of the Anglican Cathedral has received planning permission to build an office tower next to the Church Street site of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity Church.

The Vestry will move church headquarters into the building and other rents from it will be used to pay for maintenance of the Church of England's home in Bermuda following a decline in charity support and donations.

The Cathedral is in need of new wiring; a new roof; to refurbish its organ; and constant painting, tile work and cleaning.

The five-storey building will feature underground parking and will occupy the church's property between the Swan Building on Victoria Street and the Cedar House offices of law firm Appleby Spurling and Kempe on Cedar Avenue.

The 73,000 square foot office building will face Victoria Street and an existing building known as the Residence and a large natural hill on Victoria Street will be demolished to make way for it.

Architects Cooper and Gardner have designed the building and will co-ordinate the project which will see an addition of 62,085 square feet to the amount of office space in the City of Hamilton and space for 26 cars in the 11,101 square foot parking area.
