The latest special edition coins released by Bermuda Monetary Authority feature the Island's famous dancers.

The coins, which go on sale on Monday, will be the first commemorative coins released by the authority since the Triangle Series in 1996.

In a break with tradition, the coin will be the first ever released in colour by the BMA. Another edition of the coin will be made of cupro-nickel.

The colourised $5 silver-proof coin will have a limited edition of 3,500 and will sell for $35.

The cupro-nickel version, with a face value of $1, goes on sale towards the end of next week for $8 with an unlimited run.

The coins are the first in a series of five to commemorate Bermuda's heritage.

One featuring the State House in St. George's will be issued in September to commemorate the first edition of the Old Town being made a United Nations World Heritage site.

A coin featuring St. David's Lighthouse goes on sale in May 2002, followed by a Fitted Dinghy coin in May 2003.

The design of the final coin, to be released in May 2004 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Bermuda Day, has not yet been decided.
