reporting system.

Government Information Services spokesman Gavin Shorto said those involved in the project were currently recommending the chosen system to Government, in the hope of having the system implemented in the Island's Supreme Court rooms by the end of the year.

"The selection committee have decided on it, they've tested it and they've talked to the manufacturers about it in depth,'' Mr. Shorto said.

The proposed system, for which $250,000 has been allocated this fiscal year, will involve microphones being set up in different parts of each court room so they can pick up every aspect of the proceedings.

Notes will then be taken down automatically by the digital recorders and transcribed for use as permanent records.

Judges, and possibly lawyers, will be able to make "bookmarks'' in the recordings simply by touching a button on their computers on the bench.
