Condolences sent to Pearman family
described as "a respected and important fixture in the Warwick community.'' They were referring to Mrs. Melvina Pearman, mother of Home Affairs Minister the Hon. Irving Pearman, who died last week.
Opposition Senate Leader Alex Scott said he had known Mrs. Pearman since he was a child.
"She was a quiet, stately lady, and it is no surprise her children grew up to make a solid contribution to Bermuda,'' he said. "She touched the lives of many people. She was a mother to the whole community.'' Government Sen. the Hon. Maxwell Burgess said he attended Mrs. Pearman's memorial service and "couldn't help but feel the great sense of family, the great sense of a community family.'' He and other Senators commended the Corporation of Hamilton and the Bank of Butterfield for their Caribbean Concert last Sunday. The Senator said the evening engendered among the thousands in attendance "the spirit of getting along''.
Sen. Burgess also commended the Bank of Bermuda for its family day last week.
Independent Sen. Joe Johnson along with Sen. Ira Phillip and Government Sen.
Wendell Hollis asked that congratulations be sent to Rev. Michael Davis who was installed as minister at St. Anne's Church this week.
Sen. Johnson described Rev. Davis as a favourite son of Southampton.
Other congratulatory notes included the Western Stars Cricket Club for its victory in the Central Counties Cricket Competition, the Bermuda Track and Field Association and organiser Mrs. Judith Simmons for the Bermuda Junior National Championships last weekend and the Jackson School of Performing Arts on its 40th anniversary celebration.
