Construction worker's escape
14 feet from a partly constructed bank.
Mr. Jason Lewis, 21, is recovering in hospital after falling from a beam while carrying out construction work on the new branch of the Bank of Bermuda in Par La Ville Road, Hamilton.
And his family have been told that his injuries could have been much worse if he hadn't been wearing his hard hat.
But father Mr. Vincent Lewis visited the hospital, with his wife Mrs. Marilyn Lewis, last night and reported that Mr. Lewis is well on the way to recovery and is keen to get out of hospital.
A hospital spokesman said Mr. Lewis was in satisfactory condition. Mr. Lewis's sister Miss Shelley Lewis said that he is just waiting for his collapsed right lung to expand before he leaves the hospital.
Miss Lewis said: "Jason was on his job site working on a beam when he lost his balance. He fell about 14 feet onto his side crushing his right arm and his lung.
"He was in a lot of pain and is still covered in cuts and bruises, but it is lucky he was wearing his hard hat because his injuries could have been much worse than they are.'' Mr. Lewis's father said: "He is getting better it is just a matter of his lung healing up. He might come out tomorrow depending on X-rays.'' Mr. Lewis is a promising batsman for the Nationals team, who were shocked to hear about his accident.
