Cost of hospital stay to increase
to $1,000 -- regardless of the treatment.
The new rates will come into effect in April after Health Minister Nelson Bascome introduced an amendment to the Bermuda Hospitals Board's Act 1970 Friday in the House of Assembly.
The inflation in price, from $935 last year to $961 this year for a private room in the facility, comes as part of an across-the-board rise in hospital fees.
A single night stay in a public ward, referred to as a "per diem'' will cost $669, up $18 from last year. A semi-private stay will cost $799 per diem, up $20 from last year.
And tourists and visitors will have to pay $1,169 per diem for a public ward accommodation.
Should the visitor like a private accommodation at the hospital, they will have to pay $1,684 per diem -- up $46 from last year.
A visit to the Emergency Department will cost $161 for minor treatment, $235 for intermediate treatment and $290 for major treatment.
Bermuda Hospitals Board chairperson Ianthia wade and KEMH CEO Stephanie Reid were not available for comment yesterday.
