Court fees to increase after new rules passed
Wednesday.
Introducing The Court Fees and Expenses Amendment Rules 1993, Finance Minister the Hon. David Saul said most of the fee increases are "slightly above the inflation rate,'' and "none of them is remarkable.'' The Court Fees and Expenses Act 1971 provides for the Chief Justice to provide for payment of fees for court functions, be they in Magistrates' or Supreme Court, Dr. Saul said.
In a couple of cases, small fees have been removed completely, he said. Under the new schedule, a copy of a vessel registration certificate is $2, a certificate of conviction is $3, and photocopies of public documents are 50 cents per page.
The cost of issuing a summons for the recovery of money ranges from $10 to $50, depending on the amount of money being recovered.
Opposition Leader Mr. Frederick Wade said the matter was routine and his party did not oppose the increases. "It has to happen from time to time,'' he said.
