DAB sinks breakwater plan
for docks at Warwick's Grace Island.
Businessman Fernance Perry's plan to allow all-weather access to the 5.9-acre island in Hamilton Harbour was blocked because it fails to protect the "essentially pristine marine habitat'' on the southward facing shore.
It was further rejected because with the two already existing docks, there would be unacceptable visual impact which "fails to protect the natural and scenic qualities of the coastline''.
One dock can accept larger vessels, and the 210-square-foot breakwater would allow relief or assistance for the island's caretaker.
This is not the first time the DAB has halted Mr. Perry's plans for development at Grace Island.
In 1992 a plan to develop the island to accommodate 140 campers was rejected while a 1995 plan was approved provided certain conditions were met regarding protection of the natural life.
Grace Island is zoned Nature Reserve conservation area, Woodland Reserve, and Green Space under the 1992 Bermuda Plan.
