DAB to review school expansion
plans to expand its primary school wing.
According to a proposal by the school, a new section will be added to the building for students between the ages of five and 11.
And if approved, four primary classrooms, a health education teaching room, a new staff room, and a new information technology room will be constructed by September, next year.
The entire car parking arrangements on the eastern side of the school will also change to provide more recreational space for the children and there will be a separate entrance and exit for traffic flow.
The $2.5 million development -- adjacent to the school's gymnasium -- will allow the school to accommodate close to 300 primary students.
Principal Robert Lennox told The Royal Gazette the school hoped to have ground levelling work begin this summer. And work is expected to continue thereafter during school breaks.
Warwick Academy, which became a private school in 1995 as a result of public school restructuring, opened its primary department five years ago.
It was originally a one-form entry section. But due to a growing demand for places in the primary section the school's board of governors last year decided to expand the primary level to two-form entry.
The Primary Seven class will be expanded from two-form entry to three-form entry.
With the school expected to accommodate 750 students by the year 2000, Warwick Academy also plans to build a new gymnasium, music suite, and improve its library by the year 2,000.
