Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis warned the man he came close to sending him to prison.

Shawn David Bremar, 23, of South Bend Lane, Sandys pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to two counts of dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

Police saw Bremar overtake a line of cars on Trimingham Hill just before 3 a.m. on February 11.

As the van gained speed, cars traveling in the opposite direction were forced to swerve, said prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant.

Police followed the van, which had switched off its headlights, over Rural Hill and onto South Road where it struck a wall and overturned, damaging a parked vehicle.

Three occupants were thrown from the wreckage while three others remained trapped underneath the van. All sustained serious injuries including a broken collar bone, broken ribs, neck and chest injuries.

Police said the vehicle was a "total write-off'' with its front end "opened like a tin can''.

Bremar had been before the courts five months previously for speeding at 65 kph and was disqualified for driving at the time of the accident.

"What can you say about this almost suicidal and murderous speed?'' Mr.

Francis asked. "This goes way beyond mere speeding. The vehicle was totally out of control.'' Mr. Francis fined him $800 and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for two years. He fined him $300 and barred from driving for a year for disqualified driving.
