Date for by-election is set

Paula Cox will contest the seat for the Progressive Labour Party while Bank of Bermuda executive Stewart Greenslade is expected to be named the United Bermuda Party candidate.

The National Liberal Party has named retired insurance salesman Edwin Carlton Armstrong as their candidate.

Registrar General Marlene Christopher said that the acting Governor, Peter Willis, issued writs to four returning officers and has appointed the date of the by-election, the nomination day and the election room.

The polling station will be the Prospect Primary School with nomination day on Thursday September 26 and the Advanced Poll for absent and incapacitated voters taking place on Thursday October 3.

The by-election became necessary after the death of Devonshire North Member of Parliament and Leader of the Opposition Mr. L. Frederick Wade on August 13.
