Designated driver campaign starts
kicks off this weekend.
But a spokesman for the Road Safety Council's programme, which has helped promote the designated driver concept since its inception nine years ago, warned that its continued success was dependent on the community.
"The continued success of our designated driver campaign is dependent upon the participating establishments and this year individuals hosting private home parties are reminded of their responsibility.
"It is this support that is changing Bermuda's attitude toward driving while impaired.'' Designated drivers do not drink any alcoholic beverages prior to and during an outing and ensure that others in their party arrive home safely.
Many bars and restaurants throughout the Island offer complimentary soft drinks to the designated driver and have Road Safety Council buttons on hand for the individuals wishing them.
Starting this weekend, the public will begin seeing posters and tent cards in bars, restaurants and other public areas along with designated driver buttons and print advertising acting as reminders for the campaign.
