DPP weighs fate of Police officers involved with pyramid schemes
A file on three Police officers allegedly involved in pyramid schemes is being sent to Director of Public Prosecutions Khamisi Tokunbo "within the next few days''.
Mr. Tokunbo will then decide whether the officers will face criminal prosecution for their involvement in the get-rich-quick schemes.
The files are the result of an internal Police investigation after Commissioner Jean-Jacques Lemay received information that officers were using the force's Prospect headquarters to advertise the schemes during working hours.
Mr. Lemay said in a statement in February: "The Attorney General's Chambers has expressed the view that the pyramid schemes contravene the Lotteries Act 1944 and the Criminal Code of 1905.'' In September, The Royal Gazette revealed that Mr. Tokunbo had recommended no civilians be prosecuted after Police sent a file to him.
If he chooses not to prosecute the Police officers either, Police will then have the option of disciplining the officers.
In February, Mr. Lemay ordered any Police officers involved in the schemes to stop because their conduct was bringing the force into disrepute.
