Drunk drivers get taken off the road

Bezant collided with an oncoming car while he was overtaking another car.

He was found to have 153 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

The legal limit is 80 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Neville Eugene Whitecross admitted he was over the limit on December 2 when he rode into the back of a private car at 6.30 p.m. on Spurling Hill.

Whitecross, 61, of Hillview Lane, Warwick, was found to have 96 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Harry Maxwell Smith admitted before Senior Magistrate Will Francis to receiving a $1,200 air conditioner stolen from the offices of Four Star Pizza in Pembroke.

Smith denied stealing the air conditioner and related charges of stealing $4,000 and other property.

Smith, of no fixed abode, told Mr. Francis: "I received it, yes, but I didn't steal it. A person asked me if I knew anybody that would be interested.

"I did it just to make a couple of pennies. I really don't know nothing about the break-in. I'll accept that (receiving stolen property) Your Worship.'' CAUGHT IN POSSESSION CTS Caught in possession Two men have been fined $200 and $150 yesterday for possessing small amounts of cannabis.

In the first case to appear in court after the raid on the Escape nightclub last August 15, Torrie Vaughn Stuart pleaded guilty before Senior Magistrate Will Francis to having 1.71 grammes of cannabis.

Crown counsel Leighton Rochester said a plain clothes officer approached Stuart as he was sitting on a couch in the lounge area near the juice bar at 3 a.m.

Officers armed with a search warrant, looked throughout the premises for drugs.

Stuart, 20, of 2 Granaway Drive, Southampton, complied with the search and a manila paper twist containing plant material was found in his left pants pocket. He told Police it was "herb''.

He was fined $200 and given until January 21 to pay.

Adrian Burrows, 20, of 12 Patience Avenue, Sandys, pleaded guilty to having cannabis on September 6 on Middle Road, Sandys.

Stopped by Police on his cycle, Burrows was "fidgety'' and appeared to be nervous, Mr. Rochester said.

The officers searched him and found a homemade cigarette under the bike seat containing .60 grammes of cannabis.

He was fined $150 and was also given until January 21 to pay.
