Family seeks approval for subdivision

relatives are hoping to build on open coastal land in Smith's to provide homes for their expanding family.

Mr. Williams and four relatives are applying for permission to develop 18 lots on a 5.130 hectare site at Saucos Hill, off South Road. Two buildings are there at present, and another is derelict. The land has often been used for model airplane flying.

The site, which the family owns, is zoned as open space and arable reserve land with a central area designated for medium density development, which is where the proposed homes would be.

Mr. Williams said yesterday: "There are hardly any trees there, it's practically a bare property. But it's very beautiful. We're very much concerned about environmental considerations and we don't intend to ask for what we haven't been given in the last zoning. We're not trying to develop the whole property.'' The family's application says the plan is prompted by the high cost of real estate in Bermuda.

The Warwick Hotel Company is applying to build seven condo units and a pool on the Mount Royal site at the junction of Middle and Cobb's Hill Roads, on the Warwick/Paget border. The plan involves demolishing existing buildings.
