Former MPs set to get pensions

MPs, Ministers and other officers of the legislature who do not satisfy current pension rules.

Finance Minister Eugene Cox said on Friday that the Ministers and Members of the Legislature (Salaries and Pensions) Amendment Act removed an anomaly which had crept into a previous bill through an amendment in 1988.

He said: "This is correcting an injustice.'' The bill allows MPs who previously received a lump sum of their contributions back at the end of their political service to be eligible for a deferred pension to be paid at the age of 60 with eight years service and the age of 55 with at least 20 years service.
