A car traveling west on Middle Road, about 400 metres east of Five-Star Island, and two motorbikes carrying four people, collided at about 4 a.m.

The two riders were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Intensive Care Unit, suffering serious head injuries.

The two passengers were also taken to the hospital for lesser injuries.

Police closed Middle Road from Lighthouse Hill to Church Road while the scene was being investigated, diverting traffic along South Shore Road for several hours.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
