Gas blast casualty

house yesterday morning and sent its occupant to hospital. Police and fire officials did not release the name of the woman, but said they believed she was not seriously injured.

Police said the 29-year-old Anchorage View Lane resident apparently went to light her stove at about 11 a.m., when gas that had accumulated in the stove and a nearby cupboard exploded.

Fire officials are continuing to investigate the explosion. They estimated the damage at $400.

WOMAN STABBED CRM Woman stabbed A woman was stabbed in the abdomen on Saturday evening during a fight in a house on Glebe Road in Pembroke.

Police reported that the 23-year-old Pembroke woman was involved in an altercation at about 7:30 p.m., when she suffered a stab wound. A 32-year-old Warwick man has been arrested.

The woman was taken to hospital where she received six stitches, and was discharged. Police said their investigation is continuing.

FINED FOR ASSAULT CTS Fined for assault A Warwick man was fined $150 and given a 12-month conditional discharge after he pleaded guilty in Magistrates' court to assault and using offensive words.

Prosecuting, Sgt. Peter Duffy told the court that on November 26, thirty-five-year-old Dean Zuill, of Ord Road, was arrested on another matter.

Sgt. Duffy said that the man who Zuill assaulted was also arrested in connection with the same matter, and Zuill felt he had given the Police false information about his involvement.

After the two were released on bail, they left the Hamilton Police Station.

When the man was about to get on his bike, Zuill pushed him in the chest and said: "This is not finished yet, I'm going to get you.'' Sgt. Duffy then told the court that on December 6, Zuill admitted confronting the man but denied the charges of assault. When Senior Magistrate the Wor.

John Judge asked Zuill if he had anything to say, he replied: "OK, all I want to say is that the man and I had a talk this morning and we're going to try and work things out.'' SAFE RAIDED CTS Safe raided A break-in at a St George's home netted a safe weighing 600 pounds and containing more than $53,000 worth of valuables, Magistrates' Court heard on Friday.

The raid, at a home on Stokes Point Road, resulted in a haul of European coins, travellers' cheques and jewellery, said Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting.

Entry was gained through a second floor window using a step-ladder left outside a garage. The $1,000 safe was pulled from a bedroom and across the living room floor.

Prinston Robinson, 26, of Parson's Road, Pembroke, admitted the January 7 break-in and was remanded in custody for social inquiry reports.

Miss Patricia Harvey, defending, told the court it was hoped that most, if not all, of the stolen items would soon be returned.

KNIFE ATTACK CTS Knife attack A 17-year-old who stabbed a man in the leg was fined $250 on Friday for possession of an offensive weapon.

Wilfred DeGraff, of Channel View Lane, Hamilton Parish, had his case adjourned on May 15 for a social inquiry report. At the earlier hearing DeGraff admitted having a knife at the Anchorage Bar in Devonshire on April 18. He was slashed in the face with a bottle before he retaliated, he told the court.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told him: "In this fight you were provoked.'' DRUGS TO BLAME CTS Drugs to blame A 23-year-old man committed a series of break-ins because of his drug habit, Magistrates' Court heard on Friday.

Neville Woods, of Cooks Hill Road, Sandys, had earlier admitted three breaking and entering offences committed on May 8 and 9. He asked for another four to be considered. His case had been adjourned for a social inquiry report.

Questioned by Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis, he admitted the offences arose out of a drug dependency problem. He was jailed for six months.
