Govt. issues new guides to help cut through red tape
unveiled yesterday.
And everything from marriages to marine rescue and passports to planning regulations are covered in handy-sized pamphlets written in plain English.
Finance Minister Grant Gibbons said the guides were produced in a bid to make services more efficient and customer-friendly for residents and visitors.
Each guide explains the delivery of services and offers guarantees on times, as well as useful contact numbers.
Dr. Gibbons said: "I think these are handy worthwhile documents for the public to have.
"They're clearly written and contain all the relevant facts. I compliment everybody who had a hand in their production.'' And he added if the first 12 of the leaflets prove a hit, Government will consider extending the scheme to other departments.
Surveys have shown that Government departments which made easy-to-read information available enjoyed a higher public profile than those which did not.
The new leaflets cover services offered by Marine & Ports, Immigration, Works & Engineering, the Registry General, the Planning Department, Transport Control, Youth, Sport & Recreation and the Telecommunications Department.
Subjects covered include getting married in Bermuda, air arrivals, development control, licensing a vehicle, summer day camps and search and rescue services.
The pamplets will be available at the relevant departments and at Government Information Services.
The leaflet on marriages will also be mailed to local churches and to Tourism offices overseas.
