Dr. Saul also announced that Sen. Larry Scott and Sen. Gary Pitman will retain their Senate seats while MP Mr. Rick Spurling has been appointed Government Whip. And Mrs. Grace Bell has been nominated as deputy speaker of the House of Assembly.

The appointment of Sen. Haycock -- as reported in The Royal Gazette yesterday -- brings the number of female Senators to five.

Sen. Haycock, who lives in Bailey's Bay with her husband Mr. Arthur Haycock, has been an Alderman in the Corporation of St. George's since 1991.

When asked about her appointment, Sen. Haycock said: "I am very honoured to have been asked by the Premier to take this position and I looked forward to it, it is definitely going to be quite a challenge.

"I feel it is an amazing honour to be able to do something for your Country.''
