Heavy winds hit Island

And today is not expected to be any better, with winds between 25 and 35 knots with gusts to 50 predicted along with continued rain.
Firefighters were called to Lighthouse Hill in St. David's where an electricity pole was sparking and an aluminium canopy roof had blown off a person's home.
Fire personnel also attended a barge in Dockyard which was taking on water.
In a separate incident, fire trucks and personnel were called to Cloverdale Apartments on South Shore Road in Devonshire at 7.22 p.m. to help people out of an elevator which would not open.
Harbour Radio also reported a few problems due to the strong gusts of wind and the rough seas.
A spokesperson said that the Cypriot-flag cargo ship Luber , was laying off the South Shore, having decided against coming into Bermuda yesterday evening due to weather conditions.
The Dutch vessel Humbergracht also came in yesterday morning to Penno's Wharf in St. George's for repairs.
The cargo ship is en route to Montreal.
Bulk carrier Luck arrived at Murray's Anchorage yesterday afternoon for lube oil. She is en route from Baltimore to the Gulf of Cadiz in Spain.
In addition residents called in to The Royal Gazette with reports of transformers being damaged and power outages around the Island.
