Impaired drivers banned
while under the influence of alcohol.
John Simons, 38, an engineer for the Department of Works and Engineering, was stopped by Police on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish on the evening of November 25.
Simons, from Sofar Drive, St. David's, was seen driving his white car erratically and at one point nearly collided with an oncoming bus, Police said.
He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where a breath test showed that he had 146 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams.
And George Alvin Baker, 51, from Keith Hall Road, Warwick, was more than three times the legal limit when he was stopped in Paget in the early hours of November 19. Police noticed how Baker's red Daihatsu car drove through an amber light and was travelling at a very low speed.
On Tuesday, Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined Simons $450 and Baker $500 and also banned them from driving all vehicles for a year.
But two other men facing the same charge both pleaded not guilty in court.
Delroy Dill and Paul Gillespie both deny driving while impaired and failing to give a breath sample after they were stopped by Police in separate incidents.
Both men will stand trial for the offences next April.
