ERROR RG P4 10.5.2000 A sale of furniture and fittings at the former Marriott's Castle Harbour Resort has ended and is not continuing this week as stated in Monday's newspaper.

Developers of the Island's newest resort are hoping to welcome their first guests in July.

Daniel's Head Village originally intended to open next month but general manager Richard Quinn last week confirmed the opening date had now been put back to July 1.

The first reservations have already been made at the resort, which features 96 tented cottages and is located at the former Canadian military base in Sandys.

Mr. Quinn said he was aiming to have the majority of the units, which are on the headland itself, completed by July. The restaurant and landscaping are also set to be finished by then.

"Everything has been going fairly well with July 1 as a soft opening,'' he said. "There will be very little inconvenience to those guests.

"We have some bookings for the beginning of July. In the start it will be slow until everyone learns of the huge secret we have here,'' said Mr. Quinn.

The reason for the delayed opening, he continued, was because they were unable to make up some time, caused by a late start, during the project's course.

"It has been moving along smoothly,'' said Mr. Quinn. "We have a crew of Bermudians erecting these tented cottages and they have been doing a fabulous job, especially for people who have not been exposed to this sort of building before.'' Several hundred calls about the resort have been received, many following publicity in US newspapers and advertising in "soft adventure'' publications such as National Geographic and Travel and Leisure.

Staff are following up on the interest and there will soon be a brochure dedicated to Daniel's Head.

Workmen are currently erecting the structures, which are steel framed, on platforms on the land overlooking the west end. Pilings are also being sunk in the water for the several units that will be sited over the ocean.

And Mr. Quinn revealed that the cottages will be available to Island residents. Although the details have yet to be worked out, he said he expected to be full over Cup Match weekend.

Prices for overseas visitors have also been released.

An "over the water'' cottage will cost $250 per night for two people including a substantial continental breakfast. Water's edge units will be $195 a night and the inland cottages will sell for $135 a night.

The general manager said the prices were proving attractive to tourists.

"People are very receptive, particularly by Bermudian standards,'' he said.

On a green theme, the units will feature some furniture and fittings from the former Castle Harbour hotel. Daniel's Head bought many items from the property, which is selling off interior fixtures from today until Sunday.

Inside each unit there will be a queen sized bed, bathroom, sitting room and balcony. Some of the overwater cottages will feature a glass floor viewing area.

A restaurant is being built out of a former site building and local artisans are expected to be invited to show their wares in another building.
