charged with possessing and handling over $30,000 worth of cocaine.

Barry Stanley Wellman, 38, and Verna Lee Walker, 34, of Kitty's Drive, deny possessing and handling the cocaine that Police allegedly found on December 28, 1992, in the front passenger seat of Walker's car.

The defence has suggested that it was possible the drugs could have been placed inside the car by another person who then told Police.

The jury inspected the car yesterday morning when Det. Con. Brian Howard explained how he found the drugs.

At one point he activated the central locking system which locked all the doors. Although it was activated, one of the back doors could still be opened.

Mr. Philip DeSilva told the court how Wellman called him sometime after Christmas last year. He said that Wellman wanted to find out who informed Police that drugs were in the car.

DeSilva, who was employed as a technician at the Telephone Company, said he obtained a computer printout of all the people who called Police Headquarters from 12 midnight to 3.00 a.m. on December 28.

He was unable to help Wellman and said he lost his job for giving Wellman the information.

Derrick Burgess, Walker's landlord, said on the morning of the Police search, he went to her apartment with his wife.

He said that Wellman was handcuffed and sitting down. Earlier all Police officers giving testimony denied Wellman was in handcuffs until after the search was complete.

"I asked Stevie (Det. Sgt. Stevie Lightbourne) what was going on.'' Burgess said. "He said he had found a substantial amount of drugs on Barry.'' But when questioned by crown counsel Diarmuid Doorly, Burgess admitted that he did not include this conversation he had with Det. Sgt. Lightbourne in his Police statement.
