Jury unable to reach verdict in Peyton trial
new trial after a Supreme Court jury could not decide his fate yesterday.
The four-man, eight-woman jury deliberated for four-and-a-half hours before telling the court that they could not reach a verdict in the Albert Omar Peyton drugs trial.
Peyton, of Brooklyn, New York, denied attempting to import almost a quarter of a million dollars worth of cocaine as well as possessing cocaine intended for supply on May 22.
Chief Justice Austin Ward ordered a re-trial for Peyton and remanded him in custody until January 2 when he will return to Supreme Court.
Peyton was arrested after a Customs Officer at the airport found 980.4 grams of cocaine, worth $243,166, in two bottles of baby powder in his luggage.
However, he maintained that he never knew the drugs were in the bottles.
Peyton was represented by lawyers Renee Foggo and Victoria Pearman while Charlene Scott and Wilhelm Bourne appeared for the Crown.
