Malabar clean-up on Premier's UK agenda
during talks with the UK Government next week.
Dr. Saul is to meet British Prime Minister John Major at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday.
He will also be seeing Foreign Office Minister Sir Nicholas Bonsor, who has responsibility for Bermuda.
Last night Dr. Saul said he would probably discuss a clean-up of Malabar with Sir Nicholas.
The oily sludge was found nearly two years ago in an underground cave by contractor RT Environmental Services Inc., which was conducting an $8,000 environmental study in the area for the Royal Navy.
The Royal Navy picked up the bill for the study. It is understood Shell Company of Bermuda Ltd. also paid RT for exploratory work in the area.
Dr. Saul is expected to discuss what issues he might raise with Mr. Major when he holds a a Cabinet Office Press conference today.
One issue likely to be touched on is Bermuda's relationship with Britain after this year's transfer of Hong Kong to China.
After the transfer, Bermuda will have the largest population of any UK colony.
And it could mean the Island taking on an enhanced role.
