Calvin L. Richards of Kings Gate, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to stealing three Bank of Butterfield cheques which belonged to lawyer Ms Keren Lomas.

He also admitted inducing a salesperson at Stuarts to give him a video recorder valued at $489, uttering a false document namely a Pizza House order form and receiving a Sharp typewriter, writing paper and typewriter ribbon from Chips Ltd.

Prosecuting, Sgt. Kenrick James told the court that on June 9 last year Ms Lomas was the victim of a handbag snatch as she was riding her auxiliary bike.

"Her cheques were inside her bag. Later she received three cheques with her bank statement one for $489, a $30 cheque for New Queen restaurant and another for $110 that was made out to Eve's Cycles,'' Sgt. James said.

Richards said he found the cheques on the railway trail in Paget. He admitted the offences but denied being responsible for the handbag snatch.
