Man held in Sandys burglary probe
break-ins.
A 31-year-old Sandys' Parish man was arrested yesterday afternoon at around 1.30 p.m. and questioned regarding more than a dozen West End break-ins over the past few days.
The man was spotted on a bike and pursued by Police. The pursuit later turned into a foot chase before the man was captured by officers on Happy Valley Road.
The arrest followed another string of six break-ins on Wednesday in which the intruder gained access through an insecure window or door.
Somerset detectives urged all residents to keep their doors and windows locked, even while at home because several of the break-ins occurred while residents were in a different room of the house.
One Scott's Hill resident yesterday voiced concerns that his house could be "a prime target''.
"I've always lived in a neighbourhood that is relatively safe, so security measures are not always kept up,'' he said.
"We figure because we know most of the people in the neighbourhood that it won't happen to us -- but a house near mine was broken into last week,'' he added.
Areas hit included Lantana Road, Sound View Road near Heathcote Hill, Tankard Lane, Heydon Drive and Tribe Road No. 6 near Spring Benny Road.
There was also a report of an attempted break-in on Crossfield Lane.
