Man ordered to pay more than $3,000 in fines
admitting a string of traffic offences.
Albert Victor Simmons of Court Street, Hamilton pleaded guilty to driving without a licence, and driving an unlicensed and uninsured car -- on two separate occasions.
The first set of charges had been held over from November, 1996, because Simmons had failed to appear in court.
For the 1996 charges, Magistrate Edward King ordered Simmons to pay $100 for driving without a licence, $750 for driving an unlicensed vehicle, and $650 for driving without insurance.
And for the same charges stemming from 1997, Mr. King ordered fines of $200, $750 and $1,000 respectively.
"You know, that's a lot of bread,'' said Mr. King. "How much time do you need to pay?'' "Give me about a week,'' Simmons answered.
"Are you sure?'' asked a surprised Mr. King.
"I said a week.'' But Mr. King allowed Simmons two weeks to pay the fines.
Simmons faces up to six months imprisonment if the fines are not paid on time.
