The victim told Police he was walking in the Arboretum in Middle Road, Devonshire, at about 8 p.m. on Friday when he passed two men walking in the opposite direction.

The victim said he stopped briefly, but then was grabbed from behind.

A Police spokeswoman said: "He said a sharp, metal instrument was held against his throat, and his assailant demanded cash, while rifling his pockets.

"A quantity of cash was removed from his pocket, and he was released.'' The man was not injured in the ordeal. He immediately went to Hamilton Police Station to report the incident, and gave officers descriptions of the two men he had seen.
