Meeting ends in shouting match
The meeting has been arranged following the break-up of a meeting between the People's Coalition for Affordable Housing and Housing Minister Wayne Furbert.
It is understood the discussion broke up amid angry words after PCAH spokesman Rosemarie Pedro arrived at the Minister's office with five other people.
Mr. Furbert was under the impression the conference was to be between him and Ms. Pedro, and was taken aback when the five other housing activists arrived.
According to Ms Pedro, the meeting only lasted a few minutes but Mr. Furbert said they talked for half an hour and discussed several issues.
"The meeting was scheduled just for herself,'' he said. "All she needed to do was to ask to bring other people with her.'' Rosemarie Pedro blamed Mr. Furbert's secretary for the problems, saying a request for the meeting had been made in the name of the People's Coalition for Affordable Housing, not her.
And she said the Minister did not address any of the concerns she had over housing, particularly the building of 100 new homes which she believes should be taking place at Southside.
"The meeting was not very positive, it turned out to be a shouting match,'' she said.
The meeting has now been scheduled for October 29 and will include housing representatives from the Bermuda Housing Corporation and other organisations.
