while they played golf at the posh Mid Ocean Club on Wednesday.

The couple, a 72-year-old man and his 65-year-old wife, were on the course's 12th hole, near where South Road approaches Paynter's Road, when a man wielding a knife appeared at their golf cart and demanded cash.

The male victim took out his wallet and gave the thief his money.

The robber, dressed in blue coveralls, then turned his attention to the woman.

She threw money from her purse to the ground.

The thief told the woman's husband to pick the money up.

The culprit, about six-foot-two inches tall, dark skinned, clean shaven, of slim build and possibly in his late 20s or early 30s, then ran off.

It is believed the visitors were unhurt.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident. The theft occurred around 7:15 p.m.

Police are particularly interested in speaking with three persons; a white man wearing shorts and short-sleeved shirt who was walking in the area, and acknowledged the woman while her husband was golfing, and two black females, one wearing pink, who were walking on the course just prior to the incident.

The theft was the second of its type in two weeks.

A handbag, containing cash, travellers' cheques and other personal items was snatched from a golf cart along Belmont's tenth green last Wednesday. An 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, both from Warwick, were arrested and taken to Hamilton Police station.

Separately, Belmont Hotel and Golf Club general manager Gordon Slatford thwarted what he believed was a robbery in progress yesterday morning to one of the hotel's rooms.

Mr. Slatford said he observed a man climb a wall yesterday morning around 8 a.m. and then attempt to enter a room.

"I collared him but he took off.'' On May 20, someone broke into a room at the Belmont Hotel and stole money from the occupants.

A similar theft from a hotel room took place on the same date at the Harmony Club in Paget.
