Minister defends housing initiative
income families, a Government Minister told the House of Assembly on Friday.
Health and Family Services Minister Wayne Furbert said the Housing Corporation had struck a five-year lease deal for the apartments, at the Swanston property. The news came as Mr. Furbert told MPS that Bermuda is beating the housing problem.
Mr. Furbert added that Government was "right on target'' in resettling families, particularly single parents, into new homes.
He said: "As promised the Housing Corporation has already provided new homes for seven families, another five will be in place by the end of next week and they fully expect another five by the end of the month.'' And he said "a significant number'' of landlords had come forward with offers to rent their premises through the Housing Corporation thanks to a publicity drive by Health and Family Services.
Landlords who place their property with the Housing Corporation are guaranteed on-time rent payments and full restoration of properties before they are handed back.
