MPs note emissions report
approval of a report on exhaust emissions.
The Smith's South MP spent more than an hour going through a consultancy report completed at the beginning of last year on the dangers of fuel emissions. Mr. Moniz explained that the Island was lagging behind other "first world'' countries in tightening up laws to control emissions. But while Mr. Moniz was hopeful that Transport Minister Ewart Brown would inform The House on which of the recommendations the Government would undertake, Dr.
Brown had other plans.
Rising to respond, he proposed a motion that Mr. Moniz's original motion be amended so that the House would only have to take note, rather than approve the report. There followed a long debate in the Chamber over procedure before Opposition members demanded a vote on Mr. Brown's motion.
Government won the vote by 18 votes to 11.
